John Cire writes contemporary British crime fiction rooted in the landscapes, people and old stories of Northern England.

Lancashire is home. It is a place where ancient hills sit above ordinary towns, where beautiful countryside and close communities exist alongside histories that are not always as distant as they seem.

Cire's fiction is interested in people more than monsters: the stories we tell ourselves, the things families keep quiet, the compromises that become habits, and what happens when something buried refuses to stay buried.

His first novel, PENDLE, introduces Ell Whitt — intelligent, abrasive, funny, flawed and difficult to ignore.

PENDLE is the first Ell Whitt novel.
